A community services organization in New York City is looking to add a Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) to join their growing team at one of their group homes in Brooklyn & Queens.

About the Opportunity:

  • Schedule: M onday to Friday
  • Hours: 37.5 hours, Flexible
  • Setting: Group Homes
  • Patient Population: Adults (Ages 18+)

Responsibilities:

The Behavioral Intervention Specialist will:

  • Developing functional behavioral assessments and support plans using baseline data and ongoing proactive and reactive data
  • Providing individual and group counseling
  • Presenting psychotropic medications and restrictive behavior support plans to the Human Rights Committee
  • Training multi-level staff in the implementation and monitoring of behavior support plans
  • Providing referrals for psychiatric care, psychological evaluations and counseling services
  • Acting as a liaison for mental health services/behavioral problems between and among IDT members, clinics, psychiatrists, hospitals day programs, families, and concerned others
  • Participating in meetings related to ISP, Day Programs, Departmental, Psychotropic Medication Regimen Review,
  • Supervision and Special Team meetings
  • Maintaining current certification and becoming a certified trainer in SCIP or PROMOTE
  • Perform other duties, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a clinical and/or treatment field of psychology and documented training in assessment techniques and behavior support development, and 2+ years experience working directly with MRDD individuals.
  • Ability to travel to and access multiple locations throughout the metropolitan area and work flexible hours and/or days, including possible overnight and weekend hours on rare occasions.
  • Providing on-call behavioral service coverage via cell phone. Weekend/holiday coverage rotates throughout the behavioral service department.
Desired Skills:
  • 5 years experience working with MRDD individuals.
  • BCBA Certification
