Tandym Group is urgently hiring ER Coders for immediate remote contract roles with a leading healthcare organization. These are hands-on production coding positions focused specifically on facility-level CPT coding for emergency department encounters - particularly cases involving patient status changes such as ED to Observation, ED to Outpatient, or ED/Observation to Inpatient. This is not a work queue edit or review-only role. Coders must have the skills and speed to code encounters from the ground up based on clinical documentation
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform facility-level CPT coding for emergency department visits in a production coding environment.
- Accurately assign charges for:
- Patients transitioned from ED to OP, ED/Observation to IP, etc.
- Injections, infusions, and procedures performed in the ER setting.
- Enter and validate charges in Epic, ensuring all applicable procedures and services are captured.
- Apply proper use of CPT codes, modifiers, and bundling rules in compliance with NCCI edits and payer policies.
- Proactively manage and clear Charge Review Work Queues, ensuring clean claim submission and minimizing denials.
- Work independently to meet daily productivity and accuracy targets in a high-volume coding queue.
Required Qualifications:
- Active coding certification: CPC, CCS, or CCS-P.
- Minimum 5 years of recent experience in facility-level CPT coding, especially ER/ED encounters.
- Strong knowledge of injection/infusion coding, procedure coding, and status change scenarios (ED to IP/OP/Obs).
- Proficiency with Epic HB and Charge Review WQs.
- Expertise in NCCI edits, bundling/unbundling, and modifier use.
- Proven ability to hit production benchmarks in a remote coding environment.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience coding for emergency department status transitions (ED to IP/OP/Obs).
- Strong background in facility billing, revenue cycle, or charge integrity.
- Familiarity with payer-specific billing and coding guidelines.
