Tandym Group is urgently hiring ER Coders for immediate remote contract roles with a leading healthcare organization. These are hands-on production coding positions focused specifically on facility-level CPT coding for emergency department encounters - particularly cases involving patient status changes such as ED to Observation, ED to Outpatient, or ED/Observation to Inpatient. This is not a work queue edit or review-only role. Coders must have the skills and speed to code encounters from the ground up based on clinical documentation

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform facility-level CPT coding for emergency department visits in a production coding environment.
  • Accurately assign charges for:
    • Patients transitioned from ED to OP, ED/Observation to IP, etc.
    • Injections, infusions, and procedures performed in the ER setting.
  • Enter and validate charges in Epic, ensuring all applicable procedures and services are captured.
  • Apply proper use of CPT codes, modifiers, and bundling rules in compliance with NCCI edits and payer policies.
  • Proactively manage and clear Charge Review Work Queues, ensuring clean claim submission and minimizing denials.
  • Work independently to meet daily productivity and accuracy targets in a high-volume coding queue.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active coding certification: CPC, CCS, or CCS-P.
  • Minimum 5 years of recent experience in facility-level CPT coding, especially ER/ED encounters.
  • Strong knowledge of injection/infusion coding, procedure coding, and status change scenarios (ED to IP/OP/Obs).
  • Proficiency with Epic HB and Charge Review WQs.
  • Expertise in NCCI edits, bundling/unbundling, and modifier use.
  • Proven ability to hit production benchmarks in a remote coding environment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience coding for emergency department status transitions (ED to IP/OP/Obs).
  • Strong background in facility billing, revenue cycle, or charge integrity.
  • Familiarity with payer-specific billing and coding guidelines.
