A nonprofit organization in New York City is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate professional to join one of their growing family shelters in Brooklyn as a Housing Specialist.
About the Opportunity:
- Start Date: ASAP
- Schedule: Monday to Friday
- Hours: 8am to 4pm or 9am to 5pm
- Setting: Family Shelter
Responsibilities:
- Act as a liaison to external organizations for education, healthcare, housing, and social services
- Support clients in achieving housing goals through referrals and community resources
- Conduct housing searches, including contacting landlords and exploring listings
- Develop and facilitate housing-related workshops and materials
- Provide individualized counseling and organize presentations from housing experts
- Build connections with community organizations and landlords
- Evaluate housing packages and ensure readiness for move-ins, including payments and conditions
- Escort clients to housing-related appointments.
- Conduct intake, needs assessments, and re-evaluations for clients
- Maintain and update client files, ensuring documentation compliance
- Monitor client progress through regular meetings and update relevant databases
- Document all client interactions and generate required reports
- Assist clients with applications for benefits and entitlements
- Coordinate with referral organizations to track progress
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or 2 years of experience
- First Aid / CPR certification
Desired Skills:
- Bilingual
- Certification in Overdose Prevention
- Previous experience in a Shelter setting
