A healthcare services organization in Hempstead, NY is looking to add a new Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support a 1:1 assignment with a middle school student for the upcoming school year.
About the Opportunity
- Start Date: September 2, 2025
- End Date: June 2026
- Schedule: Monday to Friday
- Hours: 8:00am to 3:00pm
- Location: Hempstead, NY
Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 nursing support to a 6th grade student with diabetes
- Perform blood glucose fingersticks 3 times daily
- Monitor the student throughout the school day and respond appropriately to diabetic symptoms or emergencies
- Communicate with school staff, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers as needed
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided
- Ensure adherence to the student’s diabetic care plan and follow-up instructions
- Support the student’s safety and well-being throughout the school day
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- NYS Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Comfortable and experienced working with diabetic students
- Strong assessment and clinical skills
- Patient-focused with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Organized and detail-oriented
Desired Skills:
- Previous experience in school nursing or 1:1 pediatric care
- Experience managing diabetes care in children
- CPR certified
