A recognized legal services organization in New York City is currently seeking a bilingual professional (English/Spanish) to join their staff in Queens as their new Paralegal I.
***The qualified professional in this role will work at the organization’s office in Kew Gardens or Jamaica but will be required to occasionally travel between sites.***
Responsibilities:
- Maintenance and data entry into Law Manager, including opening/closing cases; maintaining/updating case details; etc.
- Record and file management, including archiving cases in Law Manager and managing off-site file storage
- Scanning and distributing incoming mail, and managing the preparation and sending of outgoing mail
- Manage court-ordered service of documents via mail, email, and fax
- Providing oral and written translation and interpretation support
- Support with client intake, including intake forms & releases, scheduling appointments, etc.
- Providing office reception and switchboard coverage
- Performing other duties, as needed
Qualifications:
- 1+ year of experience in a Legal role/environment
- High School Diploma / GED
- Proficiency in word processing and strong computer skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on a team
Desired Skills:
- Associate’s and/or Bachelor’s Degree
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
- Paralegal training
- Experience in and/or commitment to advocacy on behalf of low-income people
