Portfolio Operations Analyst
A Fortune 50 financial services company is seeking a highly motivated Portfolio Operations Analyst for our client in the McLean, VA area.
Overview:
- We are seeking a Portfolio Operations Analyst to support the implementation of Lean Portfolio & Product Management (LPPM) practices within Information Security.
- This role is ideal for someone who has helped build portfolio operations from the ground up, not just maintained them.
- The analyst will define and test how epics, features, and stories connect across layers, bridge gaps in tooling and governance, and lay the foundation for a sustainable Portfolio & Product Operations capability.
- This is not a reporting or support role. We need a builder—someone who has lived through the stand-up of portfolio operations, can contribute ideas, shape processes, and execute hands-on work.
- The ideal candidate thrives in pilot environments, is comfortable with ambiguity, and is motivated to help shape a scalable, repeatable portfolio operations model.
Responsibilities:
- Model Building & Pilot Enablement
- Stand up and refine a single-funnel backlog from intake to delivery.
- Define how portfolio epics decompose into features and stories.
- Identify and bridge gaps in flow, tooling, and governance.
- Support and document pilot governance events, discovery labs, and PI planning sessions.
- Tooling & Traceability
- Establish traceability across ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, and Apptio.
- Stand up initial records and tagging for cost tracking and reporting.
- Propose scalable solutions for integration and automation.
- Metrics & Reporting
- Define and trial practical measures for value, flow, and outcomes.
- Build starter dashboards and reporting views (manual or automated).
- Refine metrics based on pilot learnings.
- Audit & Documentation
- Maintain audit artifacts including role rosters, decision logs, trace maps, and outcome registers.
- Partner with risk and compliance teams to embed audit readiness.
- Path to Sustainable Operations
- Shape templates, standards, and repeatable processes for backlog management, governance, and reporting.
- Transition manual practices into sustainable operating routines.
- Contribute to playbooks, roadmaps, and improvement recommendations for future scaling.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in lean portfolio management, product operations, product management, or program management.
- Proven experience implementing or maturing LPM, SAFe, or Disciplined Agile models.
- Hands-on experience with ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, and Apptio (or equivalent tools).
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in ambiguous, pilot environments and help shape new operating models.
Desired:
- Background in security, risk, or technology portfolios.
- Experience developing playbooks, templates, and repeatable portfolio practices.
- Familiarity with audit and compliance requirements in enterprise environments.
